Understanding Lung 8
by Master Art Mason on May.27, 2010, under Kyusho Jitsu
Lung 8 is a point on the arm located at the wrist on the radial bone side of the arm. In this video I will explain some theory and application for this point. The demonstration in this video is how the point works, not how to use it in a self defense situation. In order to use any point in a self defense situation you need first understand how and why it works, then how to apply 2 way action to it. Once understood, self defense with a point is easy.

Why Learn about Pressure Points?
by Master Art Mason on May.14, 2010, under Kyusho Jitsu
You have been studying a martial art for many years now, or perhaps you are new to the arts. You are very satisfied with the art you are currently studying, so why add pressure point study to it? Well there are many reason, but today I will discuss one of the most important.
Typically most karate or martial arts student like only one aspect of their art the best. They either love doing Kata, or see them as pointless and a waste of time, or they love doing kumite, or hate doing kumite. The answers are as individual as the practitioner.
Today I am going to address Kata (hyung, poomse or any other name for form or pattern).
Wikipedia Defines Kata as follows:
Kata (型 or 形, literally: “form”?) is a Japanese word describing detailed choreographed patterns of movements practiced either solo or in pairs. Kata are used in many traditional Japanese arts such as theater forms like kabuki and schools of tea ceremony (chadō), but are most commonly known for the presence in the martial arts. Kata are used by most traditional Japanese and Okinawan martial arts, such as aikidō, iaidō, jōdō, jūdō, jūjutsu, kenjutsu, kendō and karatedō. Other arts such as t’ai chi ch’uan and taekwondo feature the same kind of training, but use the respective Chinese and Korean words instead.
But what we are interested in is WHY do we need to do these movements over and over again. The obvious answer is to build muscle memory, but there is so very much more to it. The interpretation of Kata is called Bunkai. This means why we are doing a particular strike, how it works and what the effects are on the opponent. I have found that all school have some sort of interpretation, but they often don’t make sense. Why? Because they are missing the pressure point information that is in each and every traditional movement and KATA.
Kata is a road map to understanding how and when to strike the human body. Below is a video of a breakdown of the first move in many Kata.
So how can you learn more about the breakdowns in your KATA or any other for that matter? Well I have two suggestions. The first is to consider our Pressure Point Home Study Course which is currently available for the amazing price of only $100 Canadian plus shipping. The second option is to look at our Novice Pressure Point Online Course. Both options will help you discover the amazing world of pressure point study.
Both course include full email support for questions about application of the materials studied.

How to Successfully Learn Kyusho
by Master Art Mason on May.05, 2010, under Kyusho Jitsu
When I do Kyusho Course in my school, the novice session is 12 3 hour segments lasting a year in time. We meet once per month. My success rate with these groups getting to Black Belt is very high, but there is a reason for it. We follow certain laws that pertain to learning a new skill or any skill for that matter.
There are 4 major areas we will talk about.
1) Who to listen too. There are many people on the internet who are claiming high ranks and understanding of the art. How do you decide? Find someone who is doing the things with Kyusho you want to learn to do. That simple, but often overlooked.
2) Am I teachable? This is an important question to ask yourself. How badly on a scale of 1 to 10 do I want to learn this information and what I am will to do, change or give up to do it!
3) Technical Balance - There is a certain amount of technical skill needs to be balanced with the information processed from Kyusho Jitsu.
4) Putting it together. There are 4 knowledge states to be considered. Your goal is to the reach the forth. This takes time and much word to achieve.
a) Unconscious Incompetence- This is not knowing you don’t know something
b) Conscious Incompetence – This is know that you do not know
c) Conscious Competence – This is know that you know something
d) Unconscious Competence – This is doing something you know without thinking about it. This is the ultimate place to be in any martial art or skill.
If you apply this these skills to anything you are learning you will find great success in the field in question. Kyusho is a great example of this. If you would like to know more about learning Kyusho Jitsu visit on Kyusho Online Course Website
